The first thing we learned yesterday was that Texas closes EVERYTHING for Thanksgiving. We wanted to stop and get breakfast and nothing was open with less than an hour and a half wait so we decided to go the snack route and keep trucking!
We pulled up to Cadillac Ranch and right off the bat we knew it was going to be cool. The cars are set back just far off the road to look ominous with the surrounding fog. Upon entering the gate, we quickly came to realize that the entire trail down was mud. Not normal mud. Slippery, builds up on your shoes to eventually become like a skate, mud. Hindsight told us we should probably have changed our shoes, but what does he know.
We brought our teal and gold spray paint and started leaving our mark. Not going to lie, it was cold. Finger numbing cold, but we had such a blast! We really wanted to bring Lucky, but she is in recovery mode so we thought napping in the car might be better for her and she didn't seem to mind!
From here we were on our way to Oklahoma City for our first Thanksgiving as Mr. & Mrs. Casale! (Well, he was always Mr. Casale, as our Rachel learned!)
We are both so thankful for each other, that we are on this amazing trip and getting to do so many amazing things. We are so thankful for you too. For our friends and our family who have been so supportive and helpful and loving. We are truly the luckiest people in the world, and so grateful about it!!!!
We arrived at Crackerbarrel around 7:30 and there was an hour wait, which we expected. We took Lucky out and gave her some dinner and a ton of water. After walking around a bit she wanted back in the car for a nap on her blankies. Can't blame her, it was quite rainy and cold.
We went inside and had our dinner. It was perfect. We laughed the entire time, soooo hard (except for a panic moment when the table next to us almost spoiled The Walking Dead for us!!!).
We even did the wishbone thing with some biscuits!!!!
(In case you were wondering, Pat won!)
Our goal was to make it to St. Louis then head to Detroit. We decided to make an alteration and instead we stopped in Miami, OK and will be spending the night tonight in St. Louis and visiting the CITY MUSEUM!!! It is so cool, you should go look it up. We wanted to see the Red Wings play at the Joe but the weather is a little crazy right now in the Midwest so that just gives us an excuse for a weekend getaway later this season!
Lucky is feeling better already. Of course she has a long way to go but she was much more energetic last night. She is so good about going outside and loves napping during the long stretch drives. She is the perfect travel puppy!
Also spoiled :)
We haven't been sticking to our original plan 100% but we have done most of the things we planned and added in a few extra stops! Pat (and Debbie) have spent a lot of time on making a perfect travel plan for our honeymoon! Although we didn't want to change it, of course, weather sort of forced our hand, and doing so has taken nothing away from our trip. We have had such a wonderful time so far, laughed so hard, and learned a lot. Weather, riots, and traffic can't hinder this happiness!
Stay thankful.
We love you!
The Casales and Lucky
xoxo
