Viva Las Roadtrip

Yeah yeah, it's the same as our logo, but whatever, we like it alot.

Greetings fellow wanderers!  We are down to 6 days before we hit the road for our second cross country roadtrip (!) and we wanted to check in with whats been the haps (seriously have never said that before....ever).

As you may know, we decided to plan this trip around two very special events.  Our one year wedding anniversary is coming up in November and we wanted to do something unbelievably awesome to celebrate.  For our honeymoon we took our first cross country roadtrip and had the time of our lives so what better way to honor the occasion, right?!  The timing was perfect because my little brother announced that he is getting married in Las Vegas on October 8th. Aside from the disbelief that he is old enough to be getting married (I still remember us singing Paula Abdul songs on my mom's front porch...) we couldn't be more excited.  So we smooshed the two together and came up with Viva Las Roadtrip!

As we gear up, we are taking some notes from our past selves.  For starters, we had quite the kickass car setup (insert shameless self back patting here). We bought two of those big bins that fit under your bed and organized our clothes in them.  We kept it in the trunk and every night when we arrived at our temporary home base, we grabbed our clothes for the next day and put them in a bag.  This way we weren't lugging EVERYTHING every night.  We also had our constants, such as bags with our shower stuff and whatnot that were a given.  So it took us all of 3 minutes to grab our stuff and head into the hotel.  We also had a smaller bin that we kept in the back seat full of snacks.  Now, I can't say that we 100% stuck to these guidelines, but if you are going to be driving for an extended period of time you need some fuel food such asssssss:

• applesauce
• nuts
• string cheese (bleh..i am not a fan of cheese + Pat is boarderline on the subject so this is a no for us)
•  pbj sammies
• tons of water (but make sure you have bathroom stops on the way, especially if your bladder is the size of an M&M as mine is)
• which brings us to...mini m&m's.  This is one of the big no no's of roadtrip food but we had them and it was AWESOME.
• COFFEE.  The jury seems to be very split on this one.  Some say load up on caffeine, some say steer clear, but regardless, we stopped at our fair share of Starbucks (that is a sane person version of saying A ZILLION STARBUCKS).  This was partly for help staying awake in the wee hours of the night in unknown terrain, but mostly because it was Gingerbread Latte season so I dragged my amazing husband here an unfair amount of times....(guilty face)
•  This one isn't a food, but in my opinion, the MOST important piece of the puzzle: the right adventure partner! Even when we were delirious and determined to make it to a certain point, we were still laughing and singing to 90s songs and talking about anything and everything. I would never want to travel the world with anyone but this guy, my guy.  Find your person, get in the car, and go guys, I'm telling you, it'll change your life! 

Granted, we just got married so we were deliriously happy...but this is us most of the time (minus the giant burger, usually)

Another must for us was our GoPro system.  We set up a dashcam to record our entire trip (and someday we will finish editing it to show you!).  This meant having a charger plugged in and charging the backup batteries, switching them when they ran out, and most importantly uploading all of our footage from the day, each night.  Something we decided early on in our wedding planning was to do our own video using GoPros (another video we haven't finished editing yet..) so this worked out well for us.

This past weekend was spent getting our wedding guest attire sorted out and making some lists of last minute things to do (like picking up those mini m&ms!).  So...we should probably get back to crossing some of that stuff off!
